The following is a list of articles contained in the Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Project (ON HOLD).
- The Tragedy of Miki Sayaka
- The Tragedy and Redemption of Akemi Homura (Part 1)
- The Tragedy and Redemption of Akemi Homura (Part 2)
- The Transcendence of Kaname Madoka
- The Tragedies, Survival, and Redemption of Sakura Kyoko (Part 1)
- The Tragedies, Survival, and Redemption of Sakura Kyoko (Part 2)
- The Fall of Tomoe Mami
I have read these articles over and over again out of sheer respect for the research done on the psyche of these girls. What I am very curious about is how you interpret the ending and what these new creatures are? Also, were you actually satisfied with the ending or thought of it as a deus ex machina attempt to get a somewhat bittersweet ending?
ReplyDeleteHi, sorry for the late response.
DeleteI actually never got to analyzing the new creatures yet, so I can't say to much about them. I can say that I was satisfied with the ending mainly because of the reasons I stated in the "Transcendence of Kaname Madoka" article; Urobuchi succeeded in giving us a realistic depiction of what a human would have to sacrifice in order to fulfill his or her wish. The entire series up until the very end was about this depiction! This depiction is the theme of the series, and seeing Madoka turn from human to god form in order to fulfill her wish in the end is merely a consistent event with the theme of the series. Therefore, the ending is satisfactory, since it doesn't deviate from the theme nor the plot.
To fulfill one's wish, one must make sacrifices. This is the bittersweet fact of life. It's not that Urobuchi was trying to "make" a bittersweet ending, he merely expressed a bittersweet fact of life. Many people seem to not understand this and criticize Urobuchi for creating a "deus ex machina" ending only to play with people's emotions.
Hey, are you still working on your projects + the Rebellion analysis? I really love the work you put into this and it would be sad to have a blog like this die off...

Please respond.
Hey, Rebellion Story is subbed! Can you please watch and write one for Homura? Her story is...interesting. That ending is still making me shudder.
ReplyDeleteI will write a new article on it some time this season.
